In God's Image
Beauty is not an extra, it is essential to all existence.” – Gesa Elsbeth Thiessen
The experience of beauty awakens Beauty from a deep, deep sleep. God has created us to experience beauty not simply as something extra that we add to our lives but as an integral part of who we are. The study of the arts expands a student's vision of the world and their ability to engage in it.
Beauty in nature and art provides a window to God. This is why the Psalmist says that “the heavens are telling of the glory of God” and why Paul can proclaim that “since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made so that they are without excuse” (Psalm 19:1 and Romans 1:20).
We see this truth play out in the lives of our students and families as they experience God’s beauty in our Fine Arts programs. Whether in Grammar, Logic, or Rhetoric, Beauty transforms us and transforms our culture. At Covenant, we understand that Beauty is not extra-curricular. It is the curriculum.
importance of the Arts
The Arts are an integral part of a classical education. Through the arts, students learn to observe, interpret, see different perspectives, analyze, and synthesize.
