    Thank you, Gail Smith

After 13 years of faithful service at The Covenant School, we are grateful to celebrate the remarkable legacy of Gail Smith as she enters retirement.

For over a decade, Gail has shaped the hearts, imaginations, and lives of countless students through her work in Fine Arts, Architecture, and Design. More than simply teaching artistic skills, Gail helped students learn to love beauty, craftsmanship, creativity, and meaningful work. Many Covenant alumni who pursued art and architecture professionally trace that passion back to time spent in Gail’s classroom.

Anyone who spent time around Gail quickly recognized both her extraordinary artistic gifts and her remarkable heart for students. She possessed a rare ability to make difficult things feel attainable, patiently guiding students step by step until they discovered they were capable of far more than they imagined. Her classroom was a place where students built, carved, designed, experimented, and created with confidence. But perhaps even more significant than her artistic excellence was the way Gail loved people. She consistently made students, parents, and colleagues feel seen, valued, encouraged, and deeply cared for. Her life reflected the truth of 1 Corinthians 13 — that teaching without love is empty noise. Because Gail genuinely loved her students, her instruction carried weight, her encouragement built confidence, and her influence left a lasting imprint on this community.

Year after year, Covenant seniors named Gail as one of the teachers who most deeply impacted their lives. Parents regularly expressed gratitude for her investment in their children, and alumni frequently returned eager to reconnect with her. Through both her work and her character, Gail helped shape the culture of the Fine Arts department and modeled what it looks like to pursue excellence with humility, grace, and Christian love.

As a school community, we are profoundly grateful for Gail’s 13 extraordinary years at Covenant. Her impact will continue to be felt in the lives of students, families, colleagues, and alumni for years to come.

Thank you, Gail, for your faithfulness, your encouragement, your craftsmanship, and your love for students. The Covenant School is better because you were here.
