Faithful Protection: Building a Safe and Secure Covenant Community, by Ben Nabors

Dear Covenant Families,
As a retired Dallas Police Lieutenant, I have always had an interest in safety and security. From answering calls on evenings as a young patrol officer to commanding critical incidents as a watch commander, I worked with good people who teamed up to create safer neighborhoods and communities.
We know that the Lord is in control and that He protects us. We also understand that we live in a fallen world and that we are responsible for planning and making wise decisions, in order to protect our campus. In Scripture, we see that there was a dangerous threat to the Christ child, and Joseph had the awesome responsibility for keeping Him safe.
Matthew 2: 13-15 tells us:
13 Now when they (the wisemen) had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” 14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Joseph demonstrated wisdom and courage as he obeyed the Lord and took Jesus to Egypt to protect Him. This plan came from the Lord, and Joseph and Mary were faithful to this incredible responsibility.
The Covenant Safety and Security Team has the responsibility to protect our campus. We view this as a divine calling to protect our students, faculty, and staff. We have developed a plan that we work to implement daily and it involves our security team members being visible, proactive, and responsive.
The safety and security team maintains high visibility, so that staff and students will feel safe. Our intent is that anyone who looks at our campus will see that we are alert and secure.
We proactively address any suspicious issues. We have hardened our campus over the past two years with physical additions to our fencing, windows, and access control features. We conduct regularly scheduled emergency drills and we frequently update our security procedures to keep pace with current best practices.
Community stakeholder involvement is a critical component of public safety, and working with and responding to parents, students, faculty, and staff enables us to greatly expand our ability to protect our campus and ensure we keep our campus safe and secure. If you see anything on or around our campus that seems suspicious or out of place. Please call the safety phone (469-432-7795).
An additional way that we ask you (our parents) to partner with us is to commit to completing the MinistrySafe Parent/Guardian training. This is excellent training that is designed to bring awareness to threats that our children may face. It includes practical ways to help you protect your children and teens from predatory behavior. You will receive a link for the training in the coming weeks.
At Covenant, we are blessed with a community of believers who have teamed up to impact students for Christ and deliver a truly wonderful classical Christian education. Working with you to provide an environment where students, educators, and guests are safe is a joy, and we are most effective when we all join together to protect our community. Thanks for all that you do to help us keep Covenant safe.
Non Nobis,
Ben Nabors
