Speech Competition

Our annual Speech Competition for 3rd–5th grade students is a joyful celebration of truth, goodness, and beauty expressed through the spoken word. Rooted in the classical Christian tradition, students memorize and recite poetry, Scripture, and great speeches, cultivating eloquence, confidence, and a love for what is noble and true. This event encourages students to grow in courage and character as they practice the art of rhetoric for the glory of God and the good of others.  Get all the details HERE and sign your student up HERE. If you have any questions, please email Jenn Farlow at [email protected].

Early Student Pick Ups

If you need to pick up your child for an appointment, please notify BOTH your child’s teacher and Debbie Paul at [email protected] of the date and time of pickup. This will help Debbie prepare to call the teacher when you arrive, so your child can be in the office more quickly. Parents must come to the Administration Front Office to sign their child out (remember you can use the fire lane to park since you are leaving quickly). If returning to school, the student will need to sign back in.

Conference Sign Ups

The next conference date will be Friday, March 20th.  If there is a conflict in your schedule for this date, please email the Assistant Head in for your child’s grade, Erin Howell (E-2) [email protected] or Jenn Farlow (3-5) [email protected]. Sign up links are below:

Scribing Sign Ups

We ask that parents with a student/s in Explorers through second grade sign up for at least one time per semester to scribe. Grammar School exams for 2nd semester are May 13th, 15th, 18th-19th. Each day is divided into 2 blocks of approximately 1 ½ hours, either 8:00-9:30 am or 9:30-11:00/11:15 am. You are welcome to sign up more than once if you would like to do so. If you have older students, we would love for you to sign up as well. Without scribes, this beloved tradition would not be possible. Thank you for your time and your support.

On the day of your scribing, if you are able to snag a Visitors spot on the WEST DRIVE, please park there. If not, please proceed to park at The Church in Dallas on Meandering Way.

**NOTE: Over the last few years, we have had some pretty significant issues with scribers canceling at the last minute. We know things happen, but when several volunteers cancel on a given scribing day, it really throws the whole thing off. With that said, you may try to plan ahead and coordinate with other volunteers so that if you find yourself in a bind, you can call someone to swap times or cover for you. Please do your best to commit to your time slot. Should a last minute emergency arise, please find a substitute to step in for you.

Morning Covenant Parking and Drop Off

Parents, we need your help! As you are aware, parking on campus is an adventure at times!

Drop Off and Daytime visits:

  • If you choose to walk your child to class in the morning, you may park in spots on the back row in marked “S” (for student) ONLY and be off campus by 8:10 am.
  • If you are on campus during the day staying longer than 8:10 am, park in “Visitor” on the West drive or at The Church in Dallas. Do not park in spots labeled “F" (faculty and staff) - faculty needs to be able to park and start their day when they arrive.

Parking Lot reminders

In an effort to ensure our students and families are safe, especially during the most busy times of morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, we ask that you be extra vigilant about closely monitoring your children and only crossing the street at the designated crosswalks. There are a large number of people coming and going on our small campus each day. In order to stay safe, it is important for everyone to do their part in ensuring that safety protocols are maintained.

Library

Early Morning check outs

The Grammar library is open for students and parents to come check in and check out books Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 7:45am-8:15am. Parents, please accompany Explorers-2nd graders. 3rd-5th graders may visit by themselves. Yay for books!

*Reminder - the Grammar library is right next door to the Grammar Administration office on the Grammar West deck.*

Extended Day

Welcome to Covenant's Extended Day Program for Explorers through 2nd Graders! We are so excited to see our previous students again and to meet our new families. Extended Day allows Explorers, 1st and 2nd Graders the opportunity to stay the entire school day on Mondays and Fridays. A snack will be provided for all students. Mondays provide a time for 2nd graders to complete their homework. Please see the *NEW* options for Extended Day sign ups. HERE is the registration link! Should you have any questions, please email Deedra Pace at [email protected]. We look forward to another great year of Extended Day with your children!

Uniform Information

Uniforms for 2025/2026

Parents, as we begin the 2025/2026 school year, please follow the guidelines below from our Parent/Student Handbook:
Uniforms are available exclusively through Risse Brothers. They must be clean and not ripped, frayed, or excessively stained.

  • Black, red, and white plaid skirt with sewn-down pleats, no shorter than 4 inches above the crease in the back of the knee and no longer than the top of the kneecap.
  • Black, red, and white plaid jumper for girls in E-2.
  • Black shorts with built-in liner worn under skirt for PE (grades 3-5)
  • Black shorts with built-in liner or modesty shorts worn under jumper (E-2)  (Black shorts with white trim are also acceptable)
  • White middy blouse with black tie (3-4) or Peter Pan collar and jumper (E-2)
  • White oxford button-down blouse (5th only). Tucked in and properly buttoned at all times. (white shirts should not be excessively dingy or gray)

**We are aware of the current shortage of girls' jumpers and Peter Pan blouses. We are bearing this in mind when the school year begins.

Parents, please follow THIS LINK to view uniform guidelines. They are on page 2.

Dress Code Clarifications

Some issues that need clarification:

  • Boys' tennis shoes need to be low-top, athletic/court-style tennis shoes. No high-top type basketball shoes. Tennis shoes need to be all black.
  • Girls' tennis shoes also need to be low-top, athletic/court-style tennis shoes. No high-top basketball shoes. Tennis shoes need to be all white. Girls are also not permitted to wear fashion tennis shoes, even if they are all white (ie, Golden Goose, Vega styles).
  • On casual dress day, students can wear any low-top or high-top tennis shoe of their choosing.
  • Boys' socks should be all-white without a logo.
  • Girls' socks should be all-white without a logo, except for socks with a Covenant plaid ruffle sold through our uniform vendor.
  • Hairbows and headbands should match the uniform in colors: red, white, black, grey, or Covenant plaid.
  • Boys' hair needs to be no longer than the eyebrows, mid-ear, or shirt collar.
  • Covenant sweatshirts, sweaters, and fleeces can be worn in the classroom. At recess on cold days, all of the above should be worn with a coat when extra warmth is necessary. It is also fine to wear a sweatshirt or piece of outerwear purchased from the Armory for extra warmth during outside play.
  • Sweatshirts with outside logos (Lululemon, Nike, etc…) are not allowed. This includes sweatshirts designated for Covenant Logic and Rhetoric school divisions and sports teams.
  • Please make sure to label your child’s sweatshirt or fleece. We find so many that are nameless and unable to be returned to their owner.

Friendly Reminder - Early morning drop off

Please drop off your students no earlier than 7:30am. Prior to that, there is no supervision in Covenant Hall, and it poses a safety risk to have children waiting outside without an adult present. Thank you for your cooperation!

Absentee Request Form

The Absentee Request Form is a form that must be filled out for any planned absence.  If you know that your student will be absent from school for a special event, family trip, etc., we ask that you complete the form for each student at least 2 weeks in advance. This allows our teachers to better prepare to help your student catch up on makeup work. The form can be found in the Parent Portal under “Resource Documents” and is also linked  HERE for your convenience. If you print the form and want to deliver a hard copy, please return the signed and filled out form to your student’s homeroom teacher. If you wish to scan it electronically, signed forms can be emailed directly to Allison Wedeberg at [email protected].

Carpool Safety

Although carpool is running smoothly and efficiently, we want to make you aware of some rules to ensure the utmost safety for our students.

  • If you must pick up your student early, you must retreive them from the office by 2:30 pm at the absolute latest. Please don't loiter under the pavilion to pick up your stduent.
  • Absolutely NO talking or texting on your cell phone while in the carpool line.
  • Do not drive too close to the curb as you pull up to your cone.
  • Students MUST enter the vehicle on the driver’s side. If you need to fix seating arrangements, you will need to exit the west gate before doing so. Simply drive through the west gate, park by the pond, rearrange, and you’ll be on your way! We cannot have students entering on the passenger side during such a high traffic time. Thank you for your cooperation.

FAQs

Click HERE to view our Frequently Asked Questions. We will continue to add to this as the year goes on!

Rain Gear

If you haven’t already learned, you’ll find that we take our rain gear VERY seriously here at Covenant. On rainy days, we recommend durable, hooded rain jackets for your students. Especially for our little ones, it can be much easier to manage than a clunky umbrella. If you choose to send your student to school with rain boots, please be sure to pack sneakers so they are prepared for PE.

PE Attire For boys and Girls

Both boys and girls in grades E-2 will keep their entire standard uniform on during PE.  For Grades 3-5, please send your girls to school with modest, loose fitting black shorts underneath their skirts. If students wear spandex shorts, they will be required to keep their skirts on during PE. Thank you for your cooperation!
